In June, admissions will email you a list of fall courses, along with course selection information. Once you have had time to review the courses, you can schedule a time to meet with Professor Rob Kahn, who advises our LL.M. students and teaches the required LL.M. Lawyering Skills course. He can answer your questions and make recommendations for elective credits. You will then complete and submit a registration form and our registrar will create your schedule.
During the first semester, you will take 11-13 credits. Five credits (Mentor Externship, 1 credit, and Lawyering Skills for LL.M. Students, 4 credits) are required and you will be automatically registered for these classes.
The remaining 6-8 credits should be selected from the list of electives. Most of these courses are 3 credit hours, though some of the core courses are 4 credit hours (Contracts, Torts, Civil Procedure, Business Associations) and some are 2 credit hours.
Note: Some LL.M. in U.S. Law students will choose to take the New York bar exam after completing our program. If it is your intention to take the New York bar exam, please notify our academic dean as you complete the course registration process. Links to review:

Orientation is typically held during the third week of August. Our goal is to introduce you to the study of U.S. law and life at St. Thomas, and to build community. During orientation week you will begin Lawyering Skills for LL.M. Students. Course information and pre-work is sent out in August.
If you have questions about Orientation, please contact the Office of Admissions at (651) 962-4895 or email lawschool@stthomas.edu.
